We inquired into the works of Wassily Kandinsky as a provocation for thinking about the use of Colour and Shape by artists.
The story of Elmer the Patchwork Elephant by David McKee inspired us to create collaborative art pieces. We then used Elmer templates as colour palettes to experiment with using complementary colours. Working in pairs and sharing ideas. What were the Approaches To Learning? Social Skills Accepting responsibility Respecting others Cooperating Resolving conflict Group decision making Self- management Skills Fine motor skills Spatial awareness Organisation K2 students built on their knowledge of colours by looking at contrasting colours used by Wassily Kandinsky in his famous art work, Squares and Concentric Circles . We then selected circles and squares cut out of scrap paper in the art studio to create our own Kandinsky-inspired work. Students made decisions about colours that contrast and compliment. You can see these pieces outside the K2 classroom on the ground floor. Color Study. Squares with Concentric Circles, Wassily Kandinsky, 1913
