How We Express Ourselves: The tools we use how we express our ideasn Visual Arts & Design, we explored the line of inquiry, Artistic expression in different cultures. We tuned into the unit with a Visible Thinking Routine called, Think-Pair-Share. Students shared the various forms of Performing and Visual Arts they knew of from their native countries and had seen during their travels. A rich bank of traditional dances, arts and costumes from around the world was created as a result of this sharing. A common theme that emerged was that of the Lion and Dragon dances in the region. After a brief discussion, the decision to work on a Dragon dance prop was made. Using the Design Thinking Cycle, we went through the process of identifying the task, ideating, prototyping and testing our design. Students engaged in research about the different types of dragon heads, structure of the body and scales. They compiled a list of materials they would use to create the prop. The first choice was to use recycled materials to make the head and body. They engaged in active problem-solving whilst working on the dragon head and body by thinking critically about the weight of the materials used, the movement and the aesthetics. Some questions they considered were
