Artists use colours to be express emotions.Grade two students have be n inquiring into Colour Theory with a focus on warm and cool colours on the colour wheel. We are exploring ways in which colour is used by artists to express a mood or emotion.

During a Visible Thinking Routine:I see, I Think, I Wonder, Linda asked" I wonder if we will have a Starry Night in Singapore?" This question made us think about what a starry night would look like here in Singapore or in our own countries.
The Natural World inspires artistic development and innovation. Grade 2 students were inspired to create vibrant abstract art as they looked at microscopic plant cell structures and cross section of stems and leaves. A magnified image of the patterns on a butterfly's wing inspired the leaf-like drawings. Exploring the properties of matter through art. We observed changes in the state of wax crayons when heated and on cooling. The process of melting from solid to liquid and then back to solid on cooling created some wonderful art. Clay is soft and semi-solid when we work with it. It turns hard and solid on drying.
Grade 2 have been classifying WARM and COOL colours. We made our own colour wheel of Primary and Secondary colours and by drawing a line across, we could group warm and cool colours on the wheel. We looked at how author/illustrator Molly Bang has used warm and cool colours to communicate how Sophie feels in her book, When Sophie gets Angry, Really, Really Angry.
